Here's my rendition of Uematsu's famous 'Eyes On Me' from Final Fantasy VIII for Valentines 2018.
Originally my idea was to include this piece on the Piano Collections EP itself, however it felt better suited to release slightly earlier as a teaser of sorts. I'm glad of this decision as it forced the bar of piano texture and space that I wanted to achieve.
'Final Fantasy VII' has always been the standout soundtrack for me with it's subsequent piano solo albums which my EP will take influence from, however 'Eyes On Me' is a beautiful piece that encompasses that connection between two people and all the shyness that clouds it early on.
I spent many hours finding the right piano to use for this EP and have found a greatly textured one in the Native Instruments 'Una Corda' as endorsed by Nils Frahm (a big favourite of mine). The naked piano allows for great detail in texture and authenticity when using as a sample instrument and I love the intimacy and vulnerability that comes with it.
I play a lot with pacing and the imperfections of live performance here. I feel this suits that vulnerability as mentioned before. Thus the new addition to the EP title: Imperfections.
I hope you enjoy this piano piece as much as I've enjoyed putting it together and I would welcome ANY and ALL feedback whether piano player or not: Final Fantasy fan or not.
Many thanks for listening and reading.
